Episode #10- Theme Music

Episode #10- Theme Music

Sweeping strings, driving drums, blasting horns; theme music is the non visual character that seems to drive emotion.  From earworms to anthems, massive orchestras to 8-bit, there's a world of sound and Rock, Paper and Scissors want to take it on.  First they start with Williams, Elfman, Carpenter, Hisaishi, Marricone and other big movie hitters.  They switch to an almost endless list of TV themes that range from moody and mysterious to goofy and ridiculous.  Flipping from TV to games, Yuzo Koshiro, Koji Kondo, Nuo Bouematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda, and a slew of others from Capcom dominate the conversation.

Game time- Elfman vs/ Williams

Paper pits Scissors and Rock against each other in this thematic face off.

Dumpster Dives-

Trolling through the dumpster could leave you singing the blues.  However, our podcasters seem to always resurface singing the praises of their loot.  Scissors ascends with Improv Everywhere, a website that showcases the group's hilarious exploits.  Paper crests with a humorous webcomic slung over a shoulder, Oglaf.  And Rock summits with Tales from the Crypt, a much missed television series.

Episode #9- Nostalgia

Episode #9- Nostalgia

Join Rock, Paper and Scissors as they traipse through their days of yore.  For a little while they touch on the media and material indicators that have cycled back from their childhoods.  Each generation has these touchstones, but what of the things that can't be stocked on a store shelf?  What about the sentiment of snow, sledding and snowball fights?  Where did they leave behind the enthusiasm and gratification of a bowl of cereal and a line up of Saturday morning cartoons?  Listen in as these podcasters wistfully wander and wonder.

Game time- It's all Greek to me

Rock challenges Paper and Scissors to a game of the gods.  Rock will give a Greek god name and Paper and Scissors must give the Roman equivalent in turn.  There seems to be no shortage of clues and hints to aid these mere mortals.

Dumpster Dives-

Over time the dumpster is filled with forgotten remembrances, idols of sentimentality, and nick-knacks of nostalgia.  These things were toss aside at one time and our formidable podcasters reach back in time, under the couch cushions and behind the cupboard to pull out some once gone gobbets.  Paper waxes on two podcasts.  "In Our Time," with Melvyn Bragg, and "StarTalk,"  hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson.  Scissors rhapsodizes about The Angry Video Game Nerd Youtube Channel, as well as his website Cinemassacre where he reviews horror movies.  Rock eulogizes the 1990 Akira Kurosawa film, Dreams.

Episode #8- Specter Spectacular

Episode #8- Specter Spectacular

What was that?!  Did you hear that?!

Never fear listeners, it's just our steady pocasters, Rock, Paper and Scissors.  They are back to bring you some mental meanderings from the spirit world.  Listen in as they gab about ghosts, spill about spooks, account about apparitions, and rap about wraiths.

Do you believe?

Do they believe?

Doesn't matter.  Either way they'll spiel about spirits.

Game time- Made up Movember

Paper puts Scissors and Rock to the test of naming mustachioed fictional characters.  Who will properly pick through the prickly upper lips of pop culture?

Dumpster Dives-

The dumpster can be a dark and scary place.  The shadows and impressions of lost and forgotten things leave an eerie presence, alas, nothing too chilling to keep away our gutsy podcasters.  Rock spots a ghost town of sorts, the likes of which are only kept alive online.  Welcome to Pinepoint.  There are some things that we get rid of on purpose.  Paper explores one such place as he describes a toilet themed restaurant, Modern Toilet.  Scissors circles about and comes back to the main topic with a few spectral movie stories.  Lake Mungo is a quiet but surprising ghost story.  Looking for creepy?  The Changeling, The Devil's Backbone, and The Orphanage will do in a pinch as well.

(come back for episode 9 where they'll get all nostalgic about their childhoods.)

If you're wanting an adrenaline rush, let them thrill you further with stories of high seas adventure. . . through a typhoon.  Leave swimming with the fishes for the mafia and swim with some sharks.  And if that's not enough. . . fly over the moon.

Game time- World Domination

Paper sets out to stump Rock, Scissors and Captain Claw.  With about 257 countries to name, who will rule?

How many can you name?  How many did they name?

To answer that. . . about 79.

Dumpster Dives-

Even after their expansive explorations,  your dogged podcasters slog through the crud of the dumpster to excavate some spoils. Rock hauls out two webcomics; The Gutters and The Punchline is Machismo.  Scissors reveals a movie and it's soundtrack, The Fountain.  Captain Claw also digs out a movie, 71 Into the Fire.  And Paper finishes with two more webcomics;  Axe Cop and Three Word Phrase.

Episode #6- Annoying Characters

Episode #6- Annoying Characters

Rock, Paper and Scissors are back to get under your skin.  Listen as they root around books, games, movies and tv shows for those irksome little, or not so little, feather rufflers.  Scissors cuts to the bone when it comes to vexing child actors then snips away at Dory from Finding Nemo.  Peeved Paper wraps and sends a verbal box of vitriol to the Blue Shell and Flying Medusa Heads.  Rock bashes fictional whingeing characters then moves to pummel a sunglasses wielding detective Caine. . . and they haven't even hit their pique yet!

Game time- Slashes of Horror

Scissors slapdashes a game together inspired by his recent spree of horror movie watching.  Rock, Paper and Scissor must name as many horror movies as they can without repeating franchises.  There are hundreds of horror movies, but how will our stalwart podcasters do under pressure?!

Dumpster Dives-

The dumpster is filled with hassles that someone tossed away and irritating schlock that no one wants.  Rock, Paper and Scissors work past all that in order to uncover something choice for the listeners.  Rock discovers a collectors edition version of Moleskine notebooks with beloved characters on the cover.  Paper unearths a made for tv animated movie, Turtles Forever.  Scissors, still on the horror jag, recommends two stories, Locke & Key and Heart-Shaped Box, both penned by Joe Hill.

(stay tuned for episode 7 where they'll discuss unique traveling exploits.)

Episode #5- Taste Test

Episode #5- Taste Test
aka- Put it in your mouth

Let Rock, Paper and Scissors whet your appetite for bizarre flavors with a feast for your ears.  Unable to contain their excitement for this topic they invited a friend.  Welcome Captain Claw.

First course:  Our taste testers chow down on some snack items acquired from several countries in Southeast Asia.  French onion flavored Pringles, a chocolate bar that reminds them of a scene from Caddyshack, sour gummies, blueberry ice cream flavored Oreos, a couple different flavors of KitKat, and some mints from a famous beer company.  Which ones are nosh worthy?  Which ones would they suggest you give to someone as a practical joke?

But that's not all.

Second and third course:  Our adventurous podcasters take on the Miracle Berry.  Listen to their before and after reactions to things such as lemons, beer, kimchi, whiskey, pickles and vinegar.

Game time- Mythological Creature Spew

Paper asks Rock, Scissors and Captain Claw to spit up any mythological creatures they can name.  Did they get your favorite?  Let them know which ones they forgot in the comment section below.

Dumpster Dives-

Throwing caution to the wind, Rock, Paper, Scissors and Captain Claw metaphorically gag a dumpster in the hopes that it will regurgitate up a choice nugget or two.  Paper salvages a couple of performances; Penn & Teller's show in Las Vegas, as well as a bloody production of Macbeth that Teller co-directed.  Scissors pushes past the sloppy mess and the years, back to 1994 to discuss pay per view Wrestle Mania 10.  Captain Claw pulls some music from the muck; Nigeria 70: The Definitive Story of Funky Lagos.  Lastly, having ripped a hole in his hazmat suit and gone through the proper quarantine processes, Rock surfaces with a John Woo movie, The Killer.

Below are some of the foods that our willing, podcasting lab rats subjected themselves to.
